Fireguard - A Secure Browser with Reduced Forensic Footprint
Fireguard is a secure portable browser designed to reduce both data leakage from browser data remnants and cyber attacks from malicious code exploiting vulnerabilites in browser plug-ins, extensions and software updates. A browser can leave data remnants on a host PC hard disk drive, often unbeknown to a user, in the form of cookies, histories, saved passwords, cached web pages and downloaded objects. Forensic analysis, using freely available computer forensic tools, may reveal sensitive and confidential information. A browserâs capability to increase its features through plug-ins and extensions and perform patch management or upgrade to a new release via a software update provides an opportunity for an attacker to embed malicious software and subsequently launch a cyber attack. Fireguard has been implemented using both Mozilla Firefox and the storage and protection capabilities of the Mini-SDV, a secure Portable Execution and Storage Environment (PESE). In this paper the design and development of Fireguard is discussed. The requirement for a secure PESE and the functionality of the Mini-SDV is presented. An overview is given of the motivation for the development of Fireguard. The reasons Firefox was selected and the Firefox structure and security vulnerabilities are summarised. The implementation approach adopted is discussed and the results of an analysis of the Firefox implementation are presented. The Mini-SDV configuration for Fireguard and an outline of the concept of operation is given. The changes made to Firefox to implement Fireguard as a browser that reduces the opportunity for data leakage and cyber attack, and minimises its forensic footprint are discussed. An FAO project, the Regional Fisheries Livelihoods Programme, which is funded by Spain, has worked with the Timorese authorities and coastal communities to build local capacity and put in place effective methods to gather a variety of important fisheries data. This is used to help make important decisions relating to the management of the nation's fisheries sector. These actions, which are detailed in this publication, have been carried out at relatively little expense and in a participatory manner that has engaged communities while at the same time providing practical skills to all involved
The effect of endogenous mRNA levels on co-suppression in tomato
AbstractIntroduction of truncated polygalacturonase (PG) transgenes into tomato plants caused the production of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and co-suppression of both the endogenous and PG transgenes in ripening fruits by post-transcriptional gene silencing. In order to test the possible effect on co-suppression of the endogenous PG mRNA level, we transferred the PG transgenes from a PG-silenced line (wild type background) by crossing to two ripening regulatory mutants with reduced PG: Never-ripe (Nr, âź10% endogenous PG mRNA compared to wild type) and ripening-inhibitor (rin, âź1% endogenous PG mRNA) and to wild type (as a control). The PG transgenes caused strong co-suppression of the transgenes and the endogenous PG gene in cells with high PG mRNA background (wild type) and silencing appeared to be linked with higher transgene copy number and/or a particular transgene locus. In cells with low endogenous PG mRNA accumulation (Nr), the endogenous PG gene was preferentially suppressed compared to the transgenes, whose expression was not reduced significantly. The expression of the transgenes was also not reduced in the very low PG background (rin), in which endogenous PG was barely detectable. In all the analysed lines with all three PG background levels, siRNAs accumulated in leaves and green fruits, in which the endogenous PG gene is not transcribed. The relatively abundant production of siRNAs in most of the lines was linked with a particular transgene insert. These results suggest that a certain threshold level of endogenous PG mRNA is required for the co-suppression of the truncated PG transgenes and the endogenous PG gene or for extensive silencing of the transgenes
No Time Asymmetry from Quantum Mechanics
With CPT-invariant initial conditions that commute with CPT-invariant final
conditions, the respective probabilities (when defined) of a set of histories
and its CPT reverse are equal, giving a CPT-symmetric universe. This leads me
to question whether the asymmetry of the Gell-Mann--Hartle decoherence
functional for ordinary quantum mechanics should be interpreted as an asymmetry

Complex Probabilities on R^N as Real Probabilities on C^N and an Application to Path Integrals
We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for averages over complex
valued weight functions on R^N to be represented as statistical averages over
real, non-negative probability weights on C^N. Using this result, we show that
many path-integrals for time-ordered expectation values of bosonic degrees of
freedom in real-valued time can be expressed as statistical averages over
ensembles of paths with complex-valued coordinates, and then speculate on
possible consequences of this result for the relation between quantum and

Performance of CMS muon reconstruction in pp collision events at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
The performance of muon reconstruction, identification, and triggering in CMS
has been studied using 40 inverse picobarns of data collected in pp collisions
at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV at the LHC in 2010. A few benchmark sets of selection
criteria covering a wide range of physics analysis needs have been examined.
For all considered selections, the efficiency to reconstruct and identify a
muon with a transverse momentum pT larger than a few GeV is above 95% over the
whole region of pseudorapidity covered by the CMS muon system, abs(eta) < 2.4,
while the probability to misidentify a hadron as a muon is well below 1%. The
efficiency to trigger on single muons with pT above a few GeV is higher than
90% over the full eta range, and typically substantially better. The overall
momentum scale is measured to a precision of 0.2% with muons from Z decays. The
transverse momentum resolution varies from 1% to 6% depending on pseudorapidity
for muons with pT below 100 GeV and, using cosmic rays, it is shown to be
better than 10% in the central region up to pT = 1 TeV. Observed distributions
of all quantities are well reproduced by the Monte Carlo simulation.Comment: Replaced with published version. Added journal reference and DO

Search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu channel in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
A search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu decay
channel, where l = e or mu, in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7
TeV is presented. The data were collected at the LHC, with the CMS detector,
and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 inverse femtobarns. No
significant excess is observed above the background expectation, and upper
limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section. The presence of the
standard model Higgs boson with a mass in the 270-440 GeV range is excluded at
95% confidence level.Comment: Submitted to JHE
Combined search for the quarks of a sequential fourth generation
Results are presented from a search for a fourth generation of quarks
produced singly or in pairs in a data set corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of 5 inverse femtobarns recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in
2011. A novel strategy has been developed for a combined search for quarks of
the up and down type in decay channels with at least one isolated muon or
electron. Limits on the mass of the fourth-generation quarks and the relevant
Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements are derived in the context of a
simple extension of the standard model with a sequential fourth generation of
fermions. The existence of mass-degenerate fourth-generation quarks with masses
below 685 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level for minimal off-diagonal
mixing between the third- and the fourth-generation quarks. With a mass
difference of 25 GeV between the quark masses, the obtained limit on the masses
of the fourth-generation quarks shifts by about +/- 20 GeV. These results
significantly reduce the allowed parameter space for a fourth generation of
